Hong Kong Travelinformation

Each year, hundreds of thousands of people travel to Hong Kong, making it one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. And with good reason, as Hong Kong is one of the most exciting, forward thinking and diverse cities on earth. Situated at the southern tip of China and once governed by the United Kingdom, in 1997, Hong Kong returned under Chinese rule and has been exploring its roots and heritage as one of the most successful Asian cities in the world.

With its economic prowess, Hong Kong has emerged as a top travel destination with much to offer even the casual traveler. It provides a wonderful introduction to Asia, with its glimmering high rises, busy shopping streets and intriguing markets, and its eclectic population consists of not only Chinese, but foreign expatriate and numerous ethnic minorities, including Indians, Filipinos and Mainland Chinese.

Hong Kong has its own brand of style and has emerged into the new millennium as a shopping capital. From the glitzy stores in Causeway Bay to the back streets of Kowloon littered with funky markets, Hong Kong literally has everything to offer in terms of shopping.

With its long history that includes a role as a major seaport and a strong religious identity, Hong Kong also has numerous attractions, such as the famed Victoria Peak - a mountain offering amazing views of the city skyline - and the Giant Buddha on Lantau Island.

As an island city, Hong Kong also has numerous beaches, mountains, hiking trails, wetlands and other outdoor activities to take advantage of, especially in the New Territories - a swath of land acquired later that connects Hong Kong’s islands to the Chinese mainland. Furthermore, Hong Kong’s hot and humid climate makes outdoor activities possible here all year round, even during winter when temperatures rarely drop below t-shirt weather.

Hong Kong is also a culinary playground. With such strong international influences from all over the world, Hong Kong enjoys a restaurant scene that rivals any city on earth. From upscale French restaurants to cozy Italian bistros to down home American diners, Hong Kong quite literally has it all. Not to mention the amazing local cuisine, which includes the world renowned dim sum snacks, as well as numerous delicious southern Chinese style dishes that can always be found in family-run shops around Hong Kong’s side streets.

Whether for work or play, in such an amazing city as this, Hong Kong travel is always a pleasure.
